How to book the Life in the UK test

You book the test yourself, online, on the government booking service. It costs £50 and you need to book at least 3 days ahead. This page explains the steps; we are a practice website and we cannot book a test for you.

This is an independent practice website. We are not the government and are not affiliated with any official body. To book your test, use the official website: gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test

Book only on gov.uk

The only place to book is the government website. Some websites charge extra for "booking help" or look like the official service: you do not need them. Start here: gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test/book-your-test

What you need to book

An email address, a debit or credit card and an accepted ID. If you have an eVisa, you use a share code. The name on your booking must match your ID exactly, or you will not be allowed to sit the test.

Which ID is accepted

Without an eVisa you can use a valid passport, a valid identity card from the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, or a valid travel document with a photo (not an emergency one). A biometric residence permit or card is accepted only within 24 months of its expiry date or before 31 December 2026, whichever comes first.

Choosing a test centre

You choose the centre when you book, from more than 30 centres across the UK. You can also ask for accessibility arrangements during the booking. The test is taken at the centre, on a computer, not from home.

On the day

Bring the original ID you used to book: copies and screenshots are not accepted. Your photo is taken at the centre. You cannot bring children or relatives into the centre. If your ID does not match your booking, you cannot take the test and you do not get a refund. What happens at the test (gov.uk)

Before you book

Booking is quick; passing is the part that takes time. Take a timed practice test first: if you are not reaching 18 out of 24 consistently, give yourself a few more weeks of study before you pay the fee.
